Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (IATA:HYD , ICAO:VOHS) also known as Hyderabad International Airport, is a new airport near Shamshabad, about 22 km from the city of Hyderabad, in India. It is named after former prime minister of India Rajiv Gandhi.

HIA Project Plan
The ultimate master plan is to cater over 40 million passengers per annum. To achieve this, the present master plan allows freedom of expansion to both airside and landside facilities within the Airport site. Further acquisition of land to the north and south will allow expansion of a third and fourth runway system.

“ GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) promoter of Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad received notification from Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) to commence operations from 00:01 hours on Sunday, 23rd March 2008. The notification also confirms that consequent on commissioning of Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad the existing Begumpet airport at Hyderabad will no longer be available for Civil Aviation operations.

GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) is a joint venture company promoted by GMR Group (63%) and Malaysia Airports Holding Berhad (11%), Government of Andhra Pradesh (13%) and Airports Authority of India (13%) as the other consortium partners. GHIAL won the bid to develop and operate the Greenfield international airport at Shamshabad through an international competitive bidding process conducted by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and the Government of India.
